Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) is a multicast forwardingarchitecture that doesn't require an explicit tree-building protocoland doesn't require intermediate routers to maintain per-treemulticast states. Some BIER-specific information and states, whichare only in proportion to the number of BIER routers but notper-tree, do need to be advertised, calculated, and maintained. Thisdocument describes BGP extensions for advertising the BIERinformation and methods for calculating BIER states based on theadvertisements.
