Abstract

This document defines a specialized, dynamic routing protocol forClos, fat tree, and variants thereof. These topologies were initiallyused within crossbar interconnects and consequently router and switchbackplanes, but their characteristics make them ideal forconstructing IP fabrics as well. The protocol specified by thisdocument is optimized towards the minimization of control plane stateto support very large substrates as well as the minimization ofconfiguration and operational complexity to allow for a simplifieddeployment of said topologies.
