In scenarios where network configuration information related to IPv6prefixes becomes invalid without any explicit and reliable signalingof that condition (such as when a Customer Edge router crashes andreboots without knowledge of the previously employed prefixes), hostson the local network may continue using stale prefixes for anunacceptably long time (on the order of several days), thus resultingin connectivity problems. This document describes this issue anddiscusses operational workarounds that may help to improve networkrobustness. Additionally, it highlights areas where further work maybe needed.
