Abstract

Although the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) includes a suite ofsecurity services that has been expanded by numerous specificationsover the years, there is no single place that explains how to use SIPto establish confidential media sessions. Additionally, existingmechanisms have some feature gaps that need to be identified andresolved in order for them to address the pervasive monitoring threatmodel. This specification describes best practices for negotiatingconfidential media with SIP, including a comprehensive protectionsolution that binds the media layer to SIP layer identities.
