Application protocols using Unicode code points in protocol stringsneed to properly handle such strings in order to enforceinternationalization rules for strings placed in various protocolslots (such as addresses and identifiers) and to perform validcomparison operations (e.g., for purposes of authentication orauthorization). This document defines a framework enablingapplication protocols to perform the preparation, enforcement, andcomparison of internationalized strings ("PRECIS") in a way thatdepends on the properties of Unicode code points and thus is moreagile with respect to versions of Unicode. As a result, thisframework provides a more sustainable approach to the handling ofinternationalized strings than the previous framework, known asStringprep (RFC 3454). This document obsoletes RFC 7564.
