Abstract

The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a transportprotocol originally defined to run on top of the network protocolsIPv4 or IPv6. This document specifies how SCTP can be used on top ofthe Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) protocol. Using theencapsulation method described in this document, SCTP is unaware ofthe protocols being used below DTLS; hence, explicit IP addressescannot be used in the SCTP control chunks. As a consequence, theSCTP associations carried over DTLS can only be single-homed.

For the definition ofStatus,seeRFC 2026.

For the definition ofStream, seeRFC 8729.
