Abstract
The purposes of this informational document are to establishdefinitions and describe measurement techniques for data centerbenchmarking, as well as to introduce new terminology applicable toperformance evaluations of data center network equipment. Thisdocument establishes the important concepts for benchmarking networkswitches and routers in the data center and is a prerequisite for thetest methodology document (RFC 8239). Many of these terms andmethods may be applicable to network equipment beyond the scope ofthis document as the technologies originally applied in the datacenter are deployed elsewhere.
