Abstract

A stateful Path Computation Element (PCE) maintains information aboutLabel Switched Path (LSP) characteristics and resource usage within anetwork in order to provide traffic-engineering calculations for itsassociated Path Computation Clients (PCCs). This document describesgeneral considerations for a stateful PCE deployment and examines itsapplicability and benefits, as well as its challenges andlimitations, through a number of use cases. PCE CommunicationProtocol (PCEP) extensions required for stateful PCE usage arecovered in separate documents.
