Abstract

This document defines concepts and terminology for using the SessionInitiation Protocol in a peer-to-peer environment where thetraditional proxy-registrar and message-routing functions arereplaced by a distributed mechanism. These mechanisms may beimplemented using a Distributed Hash Table or other distributed datamechanism with similar external properties. This document includes ahigh-level view of the functional relationships between the networkelements defined herein, a conceptual model of operations, and anoutline of the related problems addressed by the P2PSIP workinggroup, the REsource LOcation And Discovery (RELOAD) protocol, and theSIP usage document defined by the working group.
