The framework for the preparation, enforcement, and comparison ofinternationalized strings (PRECIS) defines several classes of stringsfor use in application protocols. Because many protocols performcase-sensitive or case-insensitive string comparison, it is necessaryto define methods for case mapping. In addition, both theInternationalized Domain Names in Applications (IDNA) and the PRECISproblem statement describe mappings for internationalized stringsthat are not limited to case, but include width mapping and mappingof delimiters and other special characters that can be taken intoconsideration. This document provides guidelines for designers ofPRECIS profiles and describes several mappings that can be appliedbetween receiving user input and passing permitted code points tointernationalized protocols. In particular, this document describesboth locale-dependent and context-depending case mappings as well asadditional mappings for delimiters and special characters.
