Abstract

This document describes an extension to the OSPF protocol to add anoptional operational capability that allows tagging and grouping ofthe nodes in an OSPF domain. This allows simplification, ease ofmanagement and control over route and path selection based onconfigured policies. This document describes an extension to theOSPF protocol to advertise node administrative tags. The node tagscan be used to express and apply locally defined network policies,which are a very useful operational capability. Node tags may beused by either OSPF itself or other applications consuminginformation propagated via OSPF.

This document describes the protocol extensions to disseminate nodeadministrative tags to the OSPFv2 and OSPFv3 protocol. It providesexample use cases of administrative node tags.
