Abstract

This document defines the requirements for Distributed MobilityManagement (DMM) at the network layer. The hierarchical structure intraditional wireless networks has led primarily to centrally deployedmobility anchors. As some wireless networks are evolving away fromthe hierarchical structure, it can be useful to have a distributedmodel for mobility management in which traffic does not need totraverse centrally deployed mobility anchors far from the optimalroute. The motivation and the problems addressed by each requirementare also described.
