Abstract

RFC 2482, "Language Tagging in Unicode Plain Text", describes amechanism for using special Unicode language tag characters toidentify languages when needed without more general markup such asthat provided by XML. The Unicode Consortium has deprecated thatfacility and strongly recommends against its use. RFC 2482 has beenmoved to Historic status to reduce the possibility that Internetimplementers would consider that system an appropriate mechanism foridentifying languages. This document is not an Internet Standards Track specification; it is published for informational purposes.
