This document describes the usage of Service Codes by the DatagramCongestion Control Protocol, RFC 4340. It motivates the setting of aService Code by applications. Service Codes provide a method toidentify the intended service/application to process a DCCPconnection request. This provides improved flexibility in the use andassignment of port numbers for connection multiplexing. The use of aDCCP Service Code can also enable more explicit coordination ofservices with middleboxes (e.g., network address translators andfirewalls). This document updates the specification provided in RFC4340. [STANDARDS-TRACK]
