Abstract

This document specifies Version 1.0 of the Datagram Transport LayerSecurity (DTLS) protocol. The DTLS protocol provides communicationsprivacy for datagram protocols. The protocol allows client/serverapplications to communicate in a way that is designed to preventeavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery. The DTLS protocol isbased on the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol and providesequivalent security guarantees. Datagram semantics of the underlyingtransport are preserved by the DTLS protocol.
