Be kind to each other

Generally, avoid ad hominem attacks — respond to ideas, not individuals.

Business posts must concern to a specific event

Business posts must link to a specific event, such as a sale, a grand opening, a concert/show, or the like. Please also be aware thatr/SalemOR_Events/ exists, and may be a more appropriate place to post (or cross-post) your event.

Missing persons and stolen vehicle reports must include an agency name and report number

Posts about missing persons or stolen vehicles need to include the name/location of the police agency that you reported the missing person or stolen vehicle to, as well as the report number that agency gave you. If you do not have both of these pieces of information, your post will be removed.

Do not post missing persons reports that ask for people to DM if they spot the person; this is a tactic used by abusers trying to find people who have fled them. Any posts requesting DMs will be removed.

No Craigslist/classified-ads style posts (including housing)

Please do not post the following here; consider Craigslist or Facebook marketplace:

Misc items for sale, including garage sales

Housing for sale/rent
Seeking job
Seeking roommates
Seeking sexual encounters
Similar classified-ad style posts

Do not promote conspiracy theories or misinformation

The following behaviors will result in immediate permanent bans from the sub:

Denialism and conspiracy theories involving vaccines, COVID-19 mitigation efforts, and other public health and safety issues
Linking to misinformation and disinformation on any matters involving public health and safety
Encouraging people not to seek scientifically sound treatments for life-threatening illnesses and injuries
Attempting to get around these rules

Do not threaten violence

Any content that encourages, glorifies, incites, or calls for violence or physical harm, whether direct or implied, against individuals, groups, or property, will not be tolerated. This includes “joking” about harm or encouraging others to engage in violent behavior. Keep discussions respectful and safe for everyone in the community. Violations will result in removal and potential bans.

Do not troll, spam, or repost

Trolling will not be tolerated. Trolling comments will be removed, and accounts that persist in trolling will be banned with no warning. If you see trolling comments, please do not engage (do not feed the trolls!); instead use the “report” button.

Similarly, spamming and reposting is not allowed, and will result in post / comment removal and permanent bans.

No slapfights

Slapfights are threads where all conversation has devolved into insults, name-calling, and trolling, and no one is behaving like an adult. Please report the comment at the beginning of a slapfight.
