Ways to donate

Help us to encourage every Kiwi child and whānau to know the joys, and reap the benefits, of reading for pleasure!

We want all New Zealanders to have a love of reading, as it's an even more powerful predictor of future success than socio-economic status.
Encouraging reading, particularly reading for pleasure, is critical for our nation’s prosperity and wellbeing.

Thank you for joining us. We can’t do what we do without you.

How we make a difference

  1. Delivering the Writers in Schools and other programmes, which encourage students to read and write
  2. Ensuring the most disadvantaged students have access to the Writers in Schools programmes
  3. Researching reading habits and barriers to reading
  4. Sharing campaigns to celebrate reading and storytelling in all its forms
  5. Advocating for the importance of reading.

Other ways you can help

Please use our services to book as many author visits as your school would like. We will contact authors on your behalf and pay them for their time.

If your school is a current member of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura, we can subsidise the cost of your first author visit each year. Often this means that your first author visit is at no additional charge to the school. The price of second or subsequent visits, or visits booked after the term cut-off dates, starts at $330 and we always provide an estimate of costs before confirming a Writers in Schools visit.

I’ve supported Read NZ Te Pou Muramura’s annual Pānui for three years now – an event that highlights the tangible, positive, long term the impact books and reading have on New Zealand as a nation. I’d love to see more people support Read NZ, to ensure this impact continues...

The first moment that stood out for me was seeing the looks on our student’s faces when they realised that Selina [Tusitala Marsh]- a Pacific woman who grew up in West Auckland just like them - had met Obama and the Queen! That moment truly opened their eyes to the possibilities that exist, not only for others, but also for them...
