Named in honour of the Jedicke family. Peter Jedicke (b. 1955-06-15 in Wiesbaden, Germany), Robert Jedicke (b. 1963-01-30 inNiagara Falls, Canada), and June Jedicke-Zehr (b. 1966-03-17 in Niagara Falls, Canada) grew up inNiagara Falls, where they attendedJames C. Morden Elementary School, Princess Margaret Senior Elementary School andWestlane Secondary School. Peter and Robert did their undergraduate degrees in Physics at theUniversity of Western Ontario in 1976 and 1984 respectively. Peter completed a Master's degree in Philosophy at theUniversity of Western Ontario in 1997 and Robert completed a Ph.D. in high-energy Physics at theUniversity of Toronto in 1992. Peter served as President of theRASC London Centre in 1977-78 and 1986-87, won theRASC Service Award in 1984, chaired the host committees for the 1979 and 2001 General Assemblies and was co-chair for the 2016 General Assembly, was appointed RASC London Centre Honorary President in 1996 and served asRASC national Vice-President 2000-2004 and President 2004-2006. Peter was made a Fellow of the RASC in 2018.
Robert played football for theUniversity of Western Ontario Mustangs, winning theYates Cup in 1981 and 1982. From 1993 to 2002, Robert was with the Spacewatch project at the University of Arizona, first as an observer and then as a researcher. Two comets were discovered by Robert while at Spacewatch. He worked on statistical analysis of the distribution of asteroids. In March, 2003, Robert joined the PanSTARRs project at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA), University of Hawaii, and retired from the research faculty at IfA in 2024.
June Jedicke-Zehr retired in 2016. She was an entrepreneur in New Hamburg, Ontario, and lived on a farm near Hickson, Ontario, the birthplace ofJohn Stanley Plaskett. The farm is host to CMOR, the meteor radar project organized byPeter Brown. June and her husband, Larry Zehr, transplanted to the better skies of Osoyoos, BC, in 2021.
