The creative team behind theStephen King adaptation made the bold decision towithhold the iconic villain for the first half of the season, while expanding the lore of the demonic entity in ways that haveleft fans divided.

Now though, it seems that the horror is poised to kick into high gear, withBill Skarsgård's Pennywise back on our screens and more frightening than ever,

In an interview withRadioTimes.com (see video above), the youngcast of It: Welcome to Derry recalled their first time seeing Pennywise on the set of the dark fantasy drama.

"Once we got to that official scene, when we got to see him, it was so scary," said Amanda Christine, who plays Ronnie. "It was like, 'Oh my gosh! I've never been afraid of clowns, but at this moment I'm terrified."

Co-star Matilda Lawler, who plays Marge, agreed that Skarsgård's Pennywise makes for an "imposing" sight, which is just "as terrifying in person – if not more – than it is on screen".

On the big bad's delayed reintroduction, executive producer Barbara Muschietti explained (viaEntertainment Weekly): "We decided that, in this season, Pennywise should be a little bit like the shark in Jaws.

"In both movies, it was very important for us to keep the mystery and the fear for this character alive. We find that familiarity is the enemy of that. So it was important for us to delay the pleasure, or the terror, as much as we could."

Meanwhile, showrunner Jason Fuchs promised that, from here on out, we're going to see "Bill doing things you've not seen him do in this character yet" – in other words, brace yourself for more frightful sequences to come.
