Player Bio

Fred Van Vleet's Basketball Journey

Fredderick Edmond VanVleet, better known as Fred VanVleet, was born on February 25, 1994, in Rockford (Illinois). He is the son of Susan VanVleet and Joe Danforth, and the brother of Alexis, Aaliyah, Darnell, J.D. and Tre.

The point guard who made a name for himself while playing for Wichita State Basketball (NCAA) between 2012 and 2016. Teaming up with future NBAers Ron Baker and then Landry Shamet, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 141 games.

From the G League to an NBA Trophy

VanVleet was not drafted and made his way to the NBA starting in the D League (now G League) before finding a role in the Toronto Raptors roster during the 2017-2018 season. He became an impact player in the Toronto Raptors lineup in 2018-2019, playing 27.5 minutes per game and starting 28 times. He had a great run in the 2019 NBA Finals and became a champion as the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games.

  1. Fred Manning, VanVleet's dad, was shot to death when his son was 5 years old.
  2. VanVleet's stepfather is a veteran police officer that trained Fred in an effort to keep him out of trouble.
  3. VanVleet played 4 years of college at Wichita State
  4. His childhood made VanVleet a tough, TOUGH, basketball player. He even lost a tooth after drawing a hard foul in the 2019 NBA Finals. He came back into the game despite the injury!
  5. As of October 2019, VanVleet had already made more than 10 million dollars in NBA salary. And he was about to make $9,000,000 for the 2019-2020 season. Not bad for an undrafted point guard that played in the G League !
