ByLoukas Founten

PORT ADELAIDE has farewelled utility Cam Sutcliffe after he was informed his contract would not be renewed for 2021.

Sutcliffe played nine games for Port Adelaide and kicked five goals after being the club’s inaugural mid-season draftee in 2019.

The versatile 28-year-old featured as a forward, midfielder and defender during those games and his calmness and experience proved valuable. He played four AFL games in 2020.

Sutcliffe was initially drafted by Fremantle with pick 71 of the 2011 National Draft and played 104 AFL games for the Dockers before being delisted at the end of the 2018 season.

He joined Port Adelaide as the club’s SANFL leadership player in 2019 before being upgraded through the mid-season draft to the AFL rookie list during the year.

Cam Sutcliffe celebrates his first AFL win with Port Adelaide during the 2019 season.

He guided the club to a SANFL Grand Final in his first year as captain, booting eleven goals in 14 games and averaging 18.4 disposals and five tackles.

“Cam has been a popular member of our playing group who provided us with experience and versatility when we needed it,” said General Manager – Football, Chris Davies.

“He should be commended for his resilience and hard work in earning a spot on our AFL list through last year’s mid-season draft.

“His time at Port Adelaide at AFL level may have been brief but his contribution has been immense, helping guide our younger players with his leadership and professionalism.

“We thank Cam for his efforts and hope to see him continue to represent Port Adelaide at SANFL level into the future.”
