InDie Legende des Donners kommt Klarin unter dem NamenKenta mit seinemStarter-PokémonFeurigel, welches sich bis dato bereits zuTornupto weiterentwickelt hat, vor. Zusammen mitMarina, dem Abbild der weiblichen SpielfigurKrista ausPokémon Kristall, undJackson ist er ein Schützling vonProfessor Lind, de ihnen am selben Tag ihre Starter übergeben hat. Trotz ihrer engen Freundschaft ging die drei anschließend getrennte Wege und bestritten ihre Reise getrennt voneinander, doch hin und wieder treffen sie sich dabei. Während einer ihrer Zusammentreffen hat Kenta einHornliu gefangen, das mittlerweile einBibor ist. Kenta ist in Krista verliebt, die zusammen mit ihm ein Jahr vor Jackson an derSilberkonferenz teilnahm.
Während seiner Reise wurden Kenta und Feurigel von einem mysteriösen Trainer und dessenNidoking besiegt, sodass dieser eines seiner stärksten Rivalen wurde. Als dieses ein Tornupto wurde, kam es zu einem Rückkampf, den Kenta schließlich für sich entscheiden konnte.
InDie Legende des Donners akzeptiert er zu Beginn die Herausforderung von Shinji und kann dessenKicklee besiegen. Später lokalisiert er das nächstgelegene Pokémon-Center und sucht dieses auf, um seine Pokémon heilen zu lassen. Als er eine ihm bekannte Stimme hört, entdeckt er dort Marina, die gerade mit Jackson telefoniert, das Gespräch aber unterbricht, als sie ihren anderen Freund sieht. Die beiden unterhalten sich über die Reise und es kommt zu einer kleinen Meinungsverschiedenheit, da Marina aus ihren Kämpfen eine Show für Publik machen möchte, während Kenta die Ansicht hat, dass das Training mit einem Starleben nicht vereinbar sei. Marina will ihren Freund vom Gegenteil überzeugen und fordert ihn zum Kampf heraus. Für Marina verläuft der Kampf zunächst schlecht, da ihrPummeluff und beinah auch ihr Impergator besiegt werden. Der Kampf wieder jedoch durch einen Blitzeinschlag unterbrochen, woraufhin Marinas Traunfugil im Wald verschwindet. Die Kinder folgen ihm und findet heraus, dassAttila und Hun vonTeam Rocket versuchen, das Legendäre PokémonRaikou gefangen zu nehmen. Während Tornupto vom Duo besiegt wird, kann Traunfugil mitAbgesang die gegnerischen Pokémon in Schach halten. Kenta bringt das verletzte Raikou in Center. Während der Behandlung treffen die KinderEusin, der behauptet, dass Raikou aus Vergeltung angegriffen habe, was Kenta verneint.
Am folgenden Morgen wacht Raikou auf und ist verwundert, wo es ist. Kenta versucht mit ihm zu sprechen, doch es attackiert ihn und flieht in den Wald. Die Trainer versuchen ihm zu folgen und treffen erneut das Gauner-Duo. Es kommt zum Kampf und die Trainer werden von Jackson gerettet, der plötzlich erscheint. Raikou wird von Wunderkristall-System befreit und Team Rocket besiegt. Raikou vertraut Kenta daraufhin. Als es in der Wildnis verschwindet, trennen sich auf wieder die Wege der Freunde.

Im regulärenAnime sieht man ihn erstmals in der EpisodeVorhang auf! Die Kämpfe beginnen!, in der er sich mit Marina und Jackson zusammen am Fernseher den Kampf zwischenSiegfried undDiantha anschaut.
Charakter und Verhalten
Nach einem Kampf zeigt Klarin immer mit dem Daumen nach oben und sagt dabei einen Spruch auf. Er ähneltAsh in vielerlei Hinsicht, da er beispielsweise nie an sich selbst zweifelt oder aufgibt, einen offensiv ausgerichteten Kampfstil hat, seinen Pokémon beibringt, Attacken einzustecken und trotzdem weiter zu kämpfen und sich ebenfalls gut um seine Pokémon kümmert. Dies zeigt sich am Beispiel von Raikou, welches sich verletzt hatte, alsAttila und Hun es fangen wollten.
Kenta hat es sich zum Ziel gemacht ein starker Trainer zu werden, um die Kinder ausNeuborkia, seiner neuen Heimatstadt, zu beschützen.
