TheWayward Moon (オミマイノミ?, lit.: "Fruit of Meeting a Patient in the Hospital") is afruit inPikmin 3 and atreasure inPikmin 4. It is a type ofmuskmelon, called the crown melon, although it bears semblance to a real lifecantaloupe. InPikmin 3, it is worth 3 total bottles of juice (one and a half inUltra-Spicy mode), the most out of any fruit, tied with theCrimson Banquet. It is spat out by theQuaggled Mireclops after its defeat, along with Louie. InMission Mode, it appears inBeastly Caverns, located to the immediate southeast of the starting area. Its value isPoko × 1000, the most out of any whole fruit (again, tied with the Crimson Banquet). InPikmin 4, it can be found in theBlossoming Arcadia and later in theCavern for a King.

The leaders seem amazed by its texture, and as shown in an unusedsecret video,Louie is fond of the smell.

See also:Quaggled Mireclops strategy.

The Wayward Moon is dropped by theQuaggled Mireclops. Since the Hocotatian is the object of most importance, send the Hocotatian ahead before trying to collect this fruit. It is the heaviest whole fruit in the game, so it is advised to put the maximum of 30 Pikmin on it, and to refrain from lettingWinged Pikmin carry it, as Winged Pikmincarry objects slower. All enemies in the way of the carrying path should have been taken out, but there might be aDwarf Bulborb on the way back.

Collecting the treasure[edit]

The following article or section containsguides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Blossoming Arcadia[edit]

There is a Wayward Moon lying beneath a water sprinkler on the westernmost side of the overworld. It is guarded by twoYellow Wollywogs, which should be defeated before attempting to collect this treasure, although it is not strictly necessary. To collect this treasure, you must either throw 50Blue Pikmin at it, or construct the nearbyclay valve to get rid of the water from the sprinkler, and then throw 50 Pikmin at it. Another strategy is to haveOatchi retrieve it, as long as he has learned Super Buff level 3 and Doggy-Paddle.

Cavern for a King[edit]

See also:Smoky Progg strategy.

There is a Wayward Moon inside of theSmoky Progg at the center of sublevel 10 of theCavern for a King. To collect this treasure, you must first defeat the Smoky Progg, then throw 50 Pikmin at it. There isa glitch where you can obtain this treasure in Cavern for a King even after you already collected it.

Notes

Brittany's notes

US version US version
Once you get past the tough, cratered exterior, this fruit has a refined, almost delicate flavor. It kind of reminds me of the captain, except he's all exterior.
European version European version
Once you get past the coarse, cratered exterior you'll find that this fruit is delicate and sweet on the inside. That's probably how the Captain sees himself, actually. Personally I think the resemblance ends at the coarse, cratered part.

Schnauz's notes[edit]

From its artistic, cratered exterior to its delicately sweet interior, the Wayward Moon is elegance in fruit form. Mild and aromatic, it would make a wonderful gift for a friend or for someone who just needs a little pick-me-up.

Olimar's notes[edit]

Picking the right "get well soon" gift is notoriously tricky. You're supposed to choose something you think the recipient would enjoy and ignore your own preferences. That's easier said than done. When I can't think of anything good, I usually default to some sort of food, like this fruit. I know I'm always hungry when I'm sick.

Louie's notes[edit]

Scoop out the flesh, and pour syrup into the shell to make a pool. Add fruit back into the syrup, and marinate for at least an hour. Then dive into the sticky juices and devour. It's both a snack and a workout!
