The Mud Pit is acave in thePrimordial Thicket inPikmin 4. As its name implies, it has a large amount ofmud, which makes traversing the cave tricky, especially when combined with the bottomless swamps that not evenBlue Pikmin can swim through.Winged Pikmin are helpful here thanks to their ability to fly over most of the mud. At the bottom is an encounter with aBug-Eyed Crawmad. This cave has
× 960 worth of treasure.
How to reach[edit]
The cave is located just a few steps northwest of The Sylvan Gate landing site. There are twoMoldy Dwarf Bulborbs near the entrance, but they are easy to run past because they patrol a relatively large area.

This sublevel is essentially a loop, so it doesn't matter which way you go. It's also one of the only places in the game where you can find theBlizzarding Blowhog, the other being the Cavern for a King. This sublevel is pretty tricky, and it's recommended that you useWinged Pikmin for the majority of the sublevel.
First, you'll need to bring all of your Pikmin to attack theBlizzarding Blowhog and kill it. Collect theDawn Pustules and theCrush Nugget, which is inside ahydro jelly. Then, kill theMuckerskate and collect the 2 treasures in the mud, which requireWinged Pikmin to take with: theSkin of the Phoenix and theSweat-Soaked Blue Bird. Take forward, and kill theWater Dumples around the base; also theBogswallow protecting it. Make sure allMuckerskates on this sublevel are killed. Then, by last, kill theBogswallow with thePortable Sunset, and collect it. The enemies give in total 51 sparklium.
By last, destroy allbreakable pots and collect the 5Gold Nuggets it releases one series of them. Then, build the bridge leading to the 3rd and last sublevel.
Sublevel 3[edit]
- Treasures:
Life Station × 1
- Enemies:
Bug-Eyed Crawmad × 1
Hermit Crawmad × 2
- Obstacles:
Numbered gate (opens once 1Bug-Eyed Crawmad and 2Hermit Crawmads are defeated)
- Tools:
- None
- Wild Pikmin:
- None
- Others:
- See also:Bug-Eyed Crawmad strategy.
Unlike prior sublevels, the mud on this floor only requires 30 Ice Pikmin to freeze. Freezing the floor has a useful benefit: the sublevel's boss, the Bug-Eyed Crawmad, will not come out of its hole while the floor is frozen, allowing you to deal with the Hermit Crawmads first. The Bug-Eyed Crawmad can also be permanently frozen via this method after emerging from its hole, essentially skipping the fight. The Life Station, however, cannot be moved while the floor is frozen.
First, freeze the floor and deal with theHermits. Then, defrost the floor and retrieve theLife Station before making the boss battle. The boss can be killed by 2 ways:
- Freeze the floor when it emerges, and deal with it frozen. However, this will cost you by losing 12sparklium.
- Make the original fight as inPikmin 3, shattering its eyes and attacking the soft abdomen.
When killed, retrieve the castaway and exit the cave.
