It is the boss of theCavern of Chaos' final sublevel (10), which is located in theWistful Wild; the only place where it can be found. Behavior[edit]

The Segmented Crawbster begins situated far above its arena, out of sight, only to violently drop down when something moves under its resting point (though this drop cannot harm Pikmin). When idle, it will crawl around the space it's confined to, in a relatively docile state for the creature. If it notices anyPikmin orleaders, it will turn to face them, and when close enough, curl up into a ball and roll towards them at high speeds; attempting tocrush them under its immense weight. While rolling, the Segmented Crawbster homes in on the currently active leader, regardless of their position; much like the rocks created byDecorated Cannon Beetles. If it ends up ramming itself into a wall, it will temporarily get flipped over, and the vibrations caused by its collision will cause manyboulders to fall around the active leader. It will then struggle to get back up in an upright position, and while doing so will expose its only damageable spot: its flashing underbelly. After about 8 seconds, it will then get back up and attempt to swing its large right leg around three times, although if it leg collides with a wall, the attack will finish early. Any Pikmin hit by the attack will get knocked down and always lose theirmaturity; apart fromPurple Pikmin, who only have a small chance to lose their buds or flowers, the same chance as most other things that knock down Pikmin. Once finished swinging around its right leg, it will go back to its crawling state until it notices any more Pikmin.

Locations[edit]

Strategy[edit]

The following article or section containsguides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

In order to defeat this creature, it must be led into a wall while it is rolling. Its rolling is more focused on the activeleader, not thePikmin. There is a slight chance that eggs will drop along with the boulders; these may containMitites, sprays, ornectar, and they will usually continue to drop every time the Segmented Crawbster crashes into the walls. After the boulders have fallen, the leader needs to be on either the left or right side of the creature and mustthrow their Pikmin onto its underside. After enough time has passed, it will get up and swing its bulking arm, which can't kill Pikmin, but does knock off their flowers. Once defeated, the Segmented Crawbster will groan and squeal as it is underbelly explodes violently, spewing goo particles all over the immediate vicinity, before dropping theSilencer.

In terms of which Pikmin are the most effective for defeating the Crawbster, it is advisable to use a group of around 10-15 Purple Pikmin – they must have flowers so they do not lag behind and get crushed. Care must be taken if one is to use them, as if they have lost their flowers due to the arm attack, they will surely be crushed by the roll. However, if few/no Purples are flowers, flower or budded Red Pikmin can do the job, as they have average speed and the second strongest power in the game. A group of 15-25 Red Pikmin is a good number to attack the Crawbster with.

  • Usingultra-spicy spray is advisable since it makes the Pikmin very fast, making it easier to avoid the rolling, especially forPurple Pikmin. The spray effect lasts for about two assaults.
  • Ultra-bitter spray can also be used to delay the end of the Pikmin's attacking time.
  • The falling rocks land near the activeleader, so leaving a leader outside the arena and switching to them whenever it hits a wall is a good tactic.
  • Another good way to avoid the falling rocks would be to zoom out thecamera as far as it can go (withthe R Button on the GameCube controller /the + Control Pad left or right on the Wii Remote), and change the view to top view mode (withthe Z Button on the GameCube controller /the + Control Pad up on the Wii Remote) before the battle. This will give you an extensive view of where each rock will fall, making it easier to avoid them.
  • When attacking the Crawbster, be sure to throw Pikmin from the creature'sleft side (your right). This will minimize the amount of Pikmin struck by the Crawbster's bulking arm, and in turn, keep your Pikmin at flower level.

For a speedy completion, the player can dismiss 100 Pikmin near its backside right after it falls from the sky, and then get ready lure it into a wall, away from the Pikmin. Once it hits the wall, the Pikmin that were chasing after it should start attacking at a steady pace.[1]

Notes

Olimar's notes

This gigantic beast is wrapped in a hard shell. In an atypical evolution, the right front leg of this creature is hypertrophic, taking on the function of an arm, rather than a leg. Its asymmetric physical development is unique in the natural world. One unlucky explorer's incorrect conclusion that this creature adheres to a pattern of peaceful, quiet behavior led to an unfortunate incident. In fact, this beast exhibits intensely hostile, aggressive tendencies, aiming at prey and ramming them at full speed.

Louie's notes

Dessert meats are all the rage on Hocotate. When the planet's finest chefs hear about the kind of sorbets, pies, and parfaits you can make with the claw meat on this sweet beast, they'll clamor for every morsel we bring home!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide[edit]

Although the Segmented Crawbster is invincible when it's rolling, the beast will be vulnerable for a few seconds after it hits a wall and lands on its back. Steer it into the wall and be prepared to toss Pikmin at its belly after you dodge a few falling boulders.

Trivia[edit]

  • When it crashes into a wall, it may cause someembed glitches to occur.
  • When it falls down on the tiled floor in the sublevel where it is found, or when it bangs its right leg against a wall, pieces of tile will fling from the impact; however, even in thePiklopedia, where no tiles are found, it will still show tiles flinging from its fall, as the tile shard effects are directly tied to the Crawbster, not whatever surface is being hit.
  • The Segmented Crawbster is the only regular boss to not be found in thePikmin 2Challenge Mode. It is also the only boss that Louie cannot be seen with.
