Rest sublevel
Rest sublevel, also referred to asrest stop orrest level, is a general term used to describe sublevels incaves inPikmin 2 andPikmin 4 that contain no or very few harmfulenemies or otherhazards. They also contain no or very fewtreasures and large amounts of helpful items, such asnectar,ultra-bitter spray,ultra-spicy spray, orCandypop Buds. A somewhat common exception to the "harmless enemy only" rule areDoodlebugs, twoHydro Dweevils in one case, andBulbmin found in another.Mamutas can also be found on some, but those help thePikmin. They can, however, hurt theleaders.
A fair proportion of rest levels containgeysers, and they are most commonly found in long and difficult caves, often before or after sublevels containingboss enemies. Such levels usually contain large amounts of flora,Spectralids swarms,Mitites,Honeywisps, pipes which act as tunnels, and water low enough forany Pikmin to safely walk through. These areas can be identified bytheir calmmusical theme.
If there is aCandypop Bud, and the player has the need to have a full group of flower Pikmin, it's feasible to throw the Pikmin into the flower and wait for them to bloom inPikmin 2. This is easy enough with any flower in any sublevel, but doing so above ground tends to be a huge waste of time. Though forPikmin 4, as time still passes in caves, albeit slower than on the surface, this becomes a bit less feasible – but still possible.

Trivia[edit]
- There are a total of 11 rest sublevels inPikmin 2, distributed in eight caves, making up 10.47% of all sublevels in the game.
- The only cave with three rest sublevels is theHole of Heroes and the only one with two is theSubterranean Complex. All other caves containing any have only one.
- The only rest sublevels inPikmin 2 that contain treasure are sublevel 5 of Frontier Cavern, sublevel 3 of White Flower Garden, sublevel 4 of Shower Room, and sublevel 12 of Hole of Heroes. When the Pikmin carry a treasure, the rest level's theme seems somewhat upgraded. As such, the player can only hear this four times in the game.[source needed]
- Whilst no rest sublevels make an appearance inThe Mud Pit inPikmin 4, the cave's first sublevel has a secluded and fairly peaceful island with greenery, Spectralids, and a Mamuta. The additional musical tone provided by the Spectralids makes the island very reminiscent of a rest sublevel.
