Pikmin 2 is a port of the originalPikmin 2 to theNintendo Switch, released in 2023. It is based onthe port ofPikmin 2 for the Wii, and features a number of changes to it.

A bundle of this game and thePikmin Switch port was also released asPikmin 1+2.

Changes[edit]

In general, the game has noregional differences unlike the previous releases, and is instead based on the North American version. This port is also built off of the North American version ofNew Play Control! Pikmin 2, meaning that unless stated otherwise, all changes from that version also apply to this game. On top of those and the changes common to both this game andPikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch), which are listedhere, the following additional changes exist.

Gameplay[edit]

• There is nowa screen displaying the game's controls, which is accessible by pressing.
• Holding while using is now how the camera is rotated in thePiklopedia and theTreasure Hoard. If the camera was already looking in a direction via alone, the camera will keep looking in that direction while rotating.
• By default, unless overridden with, stages in2-Player Battle always generate using the unbalanced random generation mode. This is further explainedhere.

Visuals[edit]

• The background of the leaders' character icons now no longer has a cut-out of Olimar's icon built into it. While this does technically fix a mistake where all leaders mistakenly used the background texture only meant for Olimar's icon, this creates the likely unintended result of slightly tinting the leader icons the colors of their backgrounds.
• Much of theproduct placement in the original game have been removed and replaced with fictional brands. This change impacts treasures in theMystical Energy Series,Massive Receptacle Series,Survival Series,Ancient Ad Series, andOdd Logo Series.^[2]
• The pre-rendered cinemas have been re-rendered and then upscaled.
  • Thewhite space inside the President's hair curl in theDebt Repayment Cinema has been removed.
  • The lighting on Louie during theCredits is drastically different.
  • Olimar now correctly possesses hair in the first shot of theGoal Completion Cinema.
• The European model of theArboreal Frippery is now used in all regions.

Text[edit]

• Various pieces of text have been changed. (e.g.:Hocotate ship's dialogs,mail,Olimar's Journal, etc.)
  • Spammail has been changed to remove links to promotional sites.
• Varioustreasures andseries were renamed.
  • TheHusband's Tears Series was renamed to the Expensive Sentiments Series.
  • TheSpace Love Series was renamed to the Celestial Vibes Series.
  • TheGemstar Wife was renamed to the Red Gemstar.
  • TheGemstar Husband was renamed to the Green Gemstar.
  • TheGherkin Gate was renamed to the Flavor Gate.
• TheCaustic Dweevil was renamed to the Hydro Dweevil.
• TheDoodlebug's family was changed from the flint bug family to theflint beetle family (the same family as theIridescent Flint Beetle) to match with the Japanese version's script.
• The single instance of the word "Louie" on day 1 that was colored blue has been recolored to yellow, matching the color of Louie's icon background inPikmin 3.

Audio[edit]

• The Pikmin singingAi no UtaEaster egg has been removed.
• Concrete 1 andFlooded Stump have some instruments missing.

History[edit]

This port was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation on June 21^st, 2023,^[3] alongsidea port ofPikmin. Both were released digitally on the eShop immediately after the presentation concluded, either individually or as a bundle calledPikmin 1+2. This bundle received a physical release in North America, Europe, and Japan on September 22^nd, 2023.

On September 21^st, 2023, the game received anupdate, which added support for more languages and made other changes.
