TheFiery Dweevil (ベニショイグモ?, lit.: "Crimson Carrying Spider") is anenemy inPikmin 2, andPikmin 4. Fiery Dweevils, like otherDweevils, like to pick uptreasures, defeated enemy corpses and other objects so they can put them on their bodies. When there is something on their bodies, they can't be damaged byPikmin orleaders until the carried object is knocked off. To take it off their bodies, justthrow Pikmin on the Dweevil's body orpunch it several times. This particular species of Dweevil, when agitated by attacks, will release searingflames that will set most Pikmin types on fire. This makesRed Pikmin,Bulbmin andGlow Pikmin the best choices in battle. However, sincePurple Pikmin can stun any common Dweevil, they will also work well.

Behavior[edit]
Fiery Dweevils scurry about randomly and take no note of the presence of anyleader orPikmin if left undisturbed. When provoked, a Dweevil will attempt to defend itself by releasingfire below itself. The fire will scatter any attacking Pikmin (excludingRed Pikmin,Bulbmin, andGlow Pikmin) and will kill them if they are notwhistled back to a leader over a small period of time. Fiery Dweevils are frail creatures and will die quickly if attacked by even a few Pikmin, or by thepunches from a leader.
When atreasure or a corpse of another creature is nearby, a Fiery Dweevil will lift it up onto its head and carry it, making it impossible for Pikmin to collect until it is broken free. When a Dweevil has an item in its possession, it will stay at rest, crouching down, appearing as if it is only the item, until it is approached by a leader or Pikmin, at which point it will stand up and run away.
InPikmin 4, as with all Dweevils, the Fiery Dweevil's range of objects it can carry has increased. Any object that is directly carryable by Pikmin, notably useable items from thePack, can now be carried by the Dweevil. This even includesfire starters, although this can only be seen with this specific type of Dweevil in theGiant's Hearth in-game. Items that can explode, likeBomb Rocks orIce Blasts can be used by the Dweevil when it has a target in its sights, replicating the ability of theVolatile Dweevil fromPikmin 2. It should be noted that Dweevils are not immune to the effects of these bombs, and will immediately die or becomefrozen as a result of the blast.

Areas[edit]
- Giant's Hearth
- There are three Fiery Dweevils in this area. The first Dweevil can be found south of the Abandoned Throne base, guarded by aFiery Bulblax. The Dweevil will be adjacent to the nearbyiron fence that leads to the inside of the hearth. The inside of the hearth is where the other two Fiery Dweevils are located, alongside anIridescent Glint Beetle and an unlitbonfire altar.

They can both be found in the large segment west of the base, with one being on the raised section, only accessible toOatchi, containing aswitch, and the other being near the iron fences. The one near the iron fences will fall from the sky when an object is being carried close to where it falls (such as thecastaway or thePearly Clamclamp).

- There is an infinite amount of Fiery Dweevils found in this story. They spawn one at a time on the segment towards the southeast, which is also slightly southeast of the initial base. They are used to blow up the nearbycrystal wall.
Strategy[edit]
The following article or section containsguides. |
With Pikmin[edit]
It's generally safest to attack a Fiery Dweevil withRed Pikmin,Bulbmin orGlow Pikmin. However, the Dweevil itself is frail enough that, in practice, virtually any kind of squad can quickly kill one. If you are not using fire-immune Pikmin, make sure to keep yourwhistle at the ready in case it gets an attack off.
Purple Pikmin in particular are an incredibly effective option; if they land near the Dweevil, they are guaranteed to stun it, and if they happen to stomp directly on their head, they will inflict massive damage, almost instantly killing it.
Alternate methods[edit]
Fiery Dweevils are weak enough that, at least inPikmin 2,leaders are more than capable ofpunching them to death. This is particularly useful if they've picked up treasure; a few punches will force it to drop it and temporarily stun the Dweevil.
An alternate, humorous method of dispatching one is tolie down near it with theNapsack; after it picks the leader up, simply wake up to stun it, allowing for multiple hits while it can't react.
Oatchi can kill one extremely quickly, even if hisChomp skill hasn't been trained very much. If hisRush skill has been sufficiently upgraded, he can bowl over it for an instant kill. Be careful if he does not have his
Pup Scorch Guard though.

Olimar's notes (Pikmin 4)[edit]
“Members of the Dweevil family are known for carrying objects of astounding size on their backs, then mimicking them. The Fiery Dweevil is one species in this family.
Generally, this is a very gentle insect that feeds on grass nectars, but when faced with danger, the Fiery Dweevil ignites flammable internal gasses, juts out its jaw, and spews scorching flames.
As this clearly makes it a rather dangerous insect, it is best not to linger directly in front of it.”Louie's notes (Pikmin 4)[edit]
