TheDwarf Orange Bulborb (テンコチャッピー?, lit.: "Child Restless Chappy") is anenemy inPikmin 2,Pikmin 3, andPikmin 4. As with most of the Dwarf Bulborb species, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are actually members of thebreadbug family, who mimic a species of Bulborb – in this case, theOrange Bulborb – to evade predation.

They are small bipedal creatures equipped with a pair of eyes on stalks, two fangs on either side of their mouth, two toes on each leg; each having a single claw, and a curved snout. Unlike Dwarf Bulborbs who have red backs, white spots and a beige-colored body, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs have an orange back, black spots, and a dark brown body. Additionally, their eyes are bloodshot yellow.

Behavior[edit]

Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are generally inactive, usually found sniffing the ground nearby, waiting for anyPikmin to wander nearby. If any Pikmin, or aleader, get close, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs will quietly bark before heading towards the Pikmin or leader. If their target leaves their territory, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs will end their pursuit, walking back to their original location.

Just likeOrange Bulborbs, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are capable of sensing prey from further distances when compared to aDwarf Bulborb in bothPikmin 3 andPikmin 4. However, inPikmin 2, this is not the case; both the Dwarf Bulborb and Dwarf Orange Bulborb have the same vision range. Also akin to Dwarf Bulborbs, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are never found sleeping, and they are always found alongside other Dwarf Orange Bulborbs, except for the one in the1st Story: Bulblaxes although it is found next to an Orange Bulborb.

Dwarf Orange Bulborbs attack by biting nearby Pikmin. If they manage to catch one, they will slowly eat them before swallowing. Defeating a Dwarf Orange Bulborb before it manages to swallow the Pikmin will save them. Only one Pikmin can be caught at a time. They will also shake off Pikmin if they are being attacked.

Strategy[edit]

The following article or section containsguides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

With Pikmin[edit]

Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are never particularly threatening.Throwing Pikmin onto their backs is by far the most effective strategy, instantly killing them inPikmin 2 andPikmin 3. However, inPikmin 4, they are durable enough to survive a direct stomp, requiring a second direct hit to kill, so either rapidly throw Pikmin at it to try and squish it twice in rapid succession, or whistle the thrown Pikmin back before it can react and bite it.Purple Pikmin are particularly effective for this, homing in on it, although any type will work, especially if youlock-on to it in the later games.

The biggest threat one poses is if they happen to coexist close to sleepingOrange Bulborbs — their extremely high-strung nature makes it a possibility that they will awaken during the battle if a Pikmin is thrown or shaken off too close to one, which will complicate matters. Either be prepared to engage the Orange Bulborb head-on, or retreat until it falls back asleep.

Alternate methods[edit]

Simplypunch it to death. It's attacks, like all other Dwarf Bulborbs, are weak and easy to dodge.

Oatchi can kill them in seconds, even with minimal upgrades. If hisrush is upgraded, he can bowl over multiple for an instant kill.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Just as dwarf red bulborbs mimic the appearance of red bulborbs, it was theorized that an orange bulborb-mimicking variant must also exist. Recent fieldwork has confirmed this theory.

Louie's notes

Although difficult to prepare, this exquisite creature is more than worth the effort. Great in fajitas!

Alph's comments

Structural flaw: back
Weight: 3

Compared to the red ones, these seem to have slightly higher vitality. When they swarm, try to stay calm and aim at the weak spot on their backs.

Brittany's comments

It's as twitchy as its larger counterpart. So much stress can take its toll on the skin. You know what helps with that? A nice juice cleanse.
European version European version
It's as twitchy as its bigger counterpart. So much stress can take its toll on the skin. I wish they'd learn to chill--not only would they be happier, but they'd be much less trouble for us.

Charlie's comments

Little, but aggressive. It's not half the problem its bigger cousins are, but it is much harder to spot. Camouflage or no camouflage, it'll have to get up pretty early in the morning to— Hey! Where'd it go?!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide[edit]

"Found in underground areas only, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are little eating machines, and they're never far from an orange Bulborb. If you can separate the creatures, you can swarm them or stomp them fairly easily-but if you have to take them on in groups, you'll be in for quite a battle."

Pikmin 3 Prima Guide[edit]

"Dwarf Orange Bulborbs aren’t nearly as durable as their as their fully grown counterparts. Toss a single Pikmin onto a Dwarf Bulborb's back to quickly defeat this enemy."

Dalmo's notes[edit]

An impostor posing as the offspring of an Orange Bulborb. It resembles the Orange Bulborb in every way. Not just in the obvious shape but even down to its sharp senses, alert to each sound and movement in its vicinity. What a lovable little impersonator!

Olimar's notes (Pikmin 4)[edit]

InPikmin 3, it is internally paired up with the Dwarf Red Bulborb (kochappy), but is disambiguated astenko, which is also a part of its Japanese name. Trivia[edit]

  • The Dwarf Orange Bulborb differs quite a bit from the creature it's mimicking inPikmin 2, having the orange on its body reach much farther frontwards, having brown fangs compared to the Orange Bulborb's white fangs, and having brown sclera compared to the Orange Bulborb's black sclera.
  • InPikmin 2, like the otherBulborb-mimickingBreadbugs, if this creature ispetrified in thePiklopedia, when it breaks out of the stone it runs around eating anythrownPikpik carrots at a much greater speed than normal.
