TheAnode Dweevil (キショイグモ?, lit.: "Yellow Carrying Spider") is anenemy inPikmin 2 andPikmin 4. It is a yellowdweevil that will emit anelectrical discharge when agitated by attacks. Exclusively inPikmin 2, it's electrical discharge will instantly kill any Pikmin that aren’tYellow Pikmin orBulbmin, without a chance to save them, thus making it one of the most dangerous Dweevils. InPikmin 4, since electricity is not an instantly lethal hazard, they are considerably less dangerous.

Their electrical affinity makes Yellow Pikmin the ideal type to strike with. SincePurple Pikmin can stun any small Dweevil, they will also work well; however, this is a very risky strategy. Anode Dweevils also pick up dead foes and treasures, which is common to all Dweevils.

Behavior[edit]

Anode Dweevils will wander around the area, looking for any objects (treasures, castaways, raw materials, enemy corpses) to pick up. They are largely passive to Pikmin and will generally run away from them and leaders, only attacking in self-defense. When provoked, the Dweevil will attempt to defend itself by releasing lethal electricity below it.

When an object is nearby, the Anode Dweevil will lift it up onto its head and carry it, making it impossible for Pikmin to collect until it is broken free. When a Dweevil has an item in its possession, it will stay at rest, crouching down, appearing as if it is only the item, until it is approached by a leader or Pikmin, at which point it will stand up and run away.

InPikmin 4, as with all dweevils, the Anode Dweevil's range of objects it can carry has increased. Any object that is directly carryable by Pikmin, notably useable items from thePack, can now be carried by the Dweevil. This even includesfire starters, although this can only be seen withFiery Dweevils in theGiant's Hearth in-game. Items that can explode, likebomb rocks orice blasts, can be used by the Dweevil when it has a target in its sights, replicating the ability of theVolatile Dweevil fromPikmin 2. It should be noted that Dweevils are not immune to the effects of these bombs, and will immediately die or becomefrozen as a result of the blast.

Caves[edit]

  • Secluded Courtyard - Two fall from above
    • There are four Anode Dweevils on sublevel 2. They can all be found towards the north of the sublevel, with one appearing next to theTime Marker and the other appearing next to thecastaway. The third Dweevil will fall from the sky as the player moves towards the Dweevil carrying the castaway. The fourth Dweevil is located on the opposite side of thedirt wall, on the side with theDisguised Delicacy. This Dweevil also falls from the sky, which happens when the Disguised Delicacy starts being carried.
  • Engulfed Castle - One falls from above
    • There are two Anode Dweevils on sublevel 3. The first Dweevil can be found north of the default base and east of the alternate base. It is located slightly north of the hangingScaly Custard. The second Dweevil can be found in the section containing the alternate base. It will fall from the sky when theMemory Fragment (Bottom...Probably?) starts being carried.

Strategy[edit]

The following article or section containsguides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

With Pikmin[edit]

It's safest to attack Anode Dweevils withYellow Pikmin,Bulbmin, orGlow Pikmin due to those type's electrical immunity. InPikmin 2, all other types will be instantly killed if hit by the Dweevil's electrical discharge; in the event where these types aren't readily accessible, it's often better to instead fight the Anode Dweevil with a leader, as they do not risk instant death, even without theAnti-Electrifier.Purple Pikmin are extremely effective against it as they have a 100% chance of stunning the Dweevil, but this is rather risky, so be prepared to call them back if the Dweevil happens to recover from the stun before dying.

Electricity is not an instantly lethal hazard inPikmin 4. As such, while Yellow Pikmin are still largely recommended, other types can be used relatively safely, so long as you are quick on the whistle. Given their frail nature, virtually any small squad of Pikmin can kill it extremely quickly if accurately thrown on their head.

Alternate methods[edit]

InPikmin 2, given the extremely lethal nature of electricity, fighting the Dweevil with a leader is a valid tactic if electrically immune Pikmin aren't immediately accessible. Given their rather low health, it won't take long, even without theRocket Fist.

Even without hisPup Anti-Electrifier, Oatchi can likely kill it before it can get an attack off, assuming his Bite skill has been trained.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Members of the dweevil family are known for carrying objects of astounding size on their backs and mimicking them. The anode dweevil is one species in this family. They seem to have no particular preference for which objects they carry on their backs, as they will carry anything they can lift. They boast an internal organ that generates electrical charges, which the anode dweevil releases when it senses danger.

Louie's notes

Raw anode dweevil makes for an unforgettable sushi treat, but if it is not prepared by an expert hand with exacting precision, consumption could result in a jolting electrical explosion of apocalyptic proportion.

Dalmo's notes[edit]

We don't wake up every day feeling as good as we want to, but the bright, fruity color of this little charmer sure makes me feel like I got my vitamins for the day. You might be able to loosen up your stiff muscles with this Dweevil's therapeutic electric shocks too!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide[edit]

The most dangerous of the Dweevils attacks by surrounding itself with electricity. If any non-yellow Pikmin are hit by the creature's sparks, they'll be fried instantly. Unless you have no other options, use yellows exclusively to fight the evil Dweevils.
