Villar leads inauguration of southern link road

-
December 13, 2003 | 12:00am
Senator Manuel Villar Jr., will lead today the inauguration of the Las Piñas-Muntilupa-Laguna-Cavite (LPMLC) Link Road, as part of his road improvement program aimed at easing traffic in the south of Metro Manila.

Villar said the overall improvement of the road network would improve accessibility and benefit thousands of commuters and motorists as it cuts travel time to areas south of Metro Manila.

He said the LPMLC Link Road links the Zapote-Alabang Road in Las Piñas to Molino Road in Bacoor, Cavite.

"An efficient and rationalized road network is one of the fundamental requirements in improving commerce and spurring economic progress," he said.

Villar said the road would not only decongest traffic in the south, but it would also help business enterprises in nearby provinces by facilitating faster transport of goods and services.

"The inauguration of the LPMLC Link Road opens the door to progress. It is in response to the people’s needs and clamor for better roads and a solution to the people’s traffic woes. So, it is my privilege and honor to build and inaugurate the LPMLC Link Road. I am confident that the riding public will experience the benefits of this project," he said.

Villar said traffic and related environmental problems have reached serious proportions in Metro Manila, affecting its more than ten Million residents.

He said the government should work hand-in-hand with local government executives in identifying congested spots in the city and come up with solutions to ease the traffic problem.

"Traffic is perennial problem in the country. Those residing in Metro Manila and its nearby provinces are the worst affected. It has been cited as a factor affecting our people’s productivity," he said.

Prior to the construction of LPMLC Link Road, people working in Metro Manila would have to endure two hours of traffic going home to Cavite via Coastal Road or South Superhighway.

Those taking South Superhighway can now take LPMLC Link Road as a shortcut to Molino Road, which leads to Dasmariñas, Cavite, and avoid getting stuck in traffic for hours.

The inauguration of the LPMLC Link Road is part of Villar’s plan to complete the necessary infrastructure to improve the traffic situation in southern Metro Manila.
