Notes
First edition, sole printing, one of around 1,000 copies only of Kippenberger's provocative artist's book, with contributions from the New York and German avant garde, including Charlie Ahearn, Diego Cortez, John Lurie, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Tabea Blumenschein, and Meuser. It is rare, with only six copies located on WorldCat: four in the USA, and one each in the Netherlands and Berlin.
The title is taken from Kippenberger's 1991 cycle of "white pictures", on which he wrote an evaluation of his work as "sehr gut - very good" in a childlike hand.
Widely acknowledged as one of the most talented German artists of his generation, Kippenberger was at the centre of a generation of enfants terribles, known as much for his hedonistic lifestyle as for his art. He was "a painter, a writer, a performer, a self-proclaimed exhibitionist, a drunk, and a brute - some might call him a visionary who flew too close to the sun" (Moreno).
Description
Folio newspaper, pp. 44 (including covers). Illustrated in black throughout, text in German.
Original yellow paper printed in black.
A few nicks to head of final leaf, else fine.
Camille Moreno, "Martin Kippenberger: Sehr gut indeed", The Berliner, 21 May 2013.
