Lenovo Legion Go S release date
Announced at CES 2025, the Lenovo Legion Go S has now been launched. A specific release date is not mentioned in the official press release; it simply lists says the device “will be available starting January 2025”. We have seen it available in some regions, however, in the US, apre-order listing on Best Buy reveals that it will be released on February 14th, 2025. As expected, the launch comes at the same time as the new Ryzen Z2 processors, which AMD says are said tosolve the battery life issue many handhelds have been let down by.
With handheld revisions like theASUS ROG Ally X andMSI Claw 8 AI+, the handheld gaming space is quite competitive at the moment, even though Valve has already denied having a Z2-powered Steam Deck in the works. Speaking of Valve, the Legion Go S will be getting a SteamOS variant of the handheld later this year, in May – the first of its kind.
Lenovo Legion Go S specs and design
There were plenty of specs leaks in the build-up to CES 2025; the Go S was expected to have anew Ryzen Z2G processor on board. Well, that CPU has now been revealed and is in fact called the Ryzen Z2 Go. In any case, here are the official specs for the Legion Go S.

The original Legion Go sports an 8.8-inch screen with a 2560×1600 resolution, so the Legion Go S is certainly a downgrade in the display department. Even still, it will benefit from the newer Z2 Go processors for certain models, though this is the entry-level option from the Ryzen Z2 series. AMD reveals the Z2 Go is based on RDNA 2 architecture with 12 graphics compute units and up to 4.3 GHz clock speed. It is not immediately clear how the performance will differ from the Z1 Extreme, but we expect it to be a little worse as the Z1 Extreme benefits from RDNA 3. On the bright side, the Legion Go S will have a larger battery and double the RAM of the original model.
As far as design goes, renders for the Legion Go S were previously leaked online – twice. These turned out to match what Lenovo revealed officially at CES 2025. First off, a white model which made itlook a lot like the ASUS ROG Ally was leaked. That was soon followed up by another render, this time with a black colorway. The latter gave us a more high-definition look, revealing that it even features adedicated Steam button. And, as expected, the budget model will not feature detachable controllers or the additional back buttons of the original.

Lenovo Legion Go S price
The pricing was tough to gauge ahead of the launch, and it also seems to be a little convoluted following official word on the matter. In any case, let’s break it down as simply as possible.
- Lenovo Legion Go S (Windows variant) retails at a starting price of $729.99 – “additional configurations” are expected to be available from May 2025 at an “expected starting price of $599.99”.
- Lenovo Legion Go S (SteamOS variant) will be available starting May 2025 and is expected to start from $499.99.
So, it’s safe to say that the pricing is a little all over the place depending on the model and operating system. Retailing for up to over $700 caught us by surprise as many people expected the Go S to be the ‘budget’ model; it’s now safer to say it has a few trade-offs instead – a worse display for better battery life and higher framerates as it targets a lower resolution.
