"What even is “American food,” anyway?
We throw around a lot of platitudes like, ‘nothing’s as American as apple pie.’ Well, apple pie is not American. Not one ingredient in apple pie is indigenous to North America. Not even the apple! So what are we talking about here?” - Padma Lakshmi

A NOTE FROM PADMA
Taste The Nation is a show about what connects us as Americans and as human beings. It’s about the undeniable spirit, adaptability and resilience of the immigrants and indigenous communities who shaped this country and what we now know as “American” food.
It’s a project I’ve spent years developing. We traveled across the country visiting indigenous and immigrant communities to hear their stories directly. The process was incredibly emotional and rewarding - a journey I will never forget.
I hope it makes us question our place in the world and the idea of “Who gets to call themselves American?”
You can now watch Season 1, the Holiday Edition, and Seaosn 2 on Hulu. I’m so proud of everyone who worked on this with me and I hope you’ll enjoy it too.
