Fifty Licks opens new Burnside location this Friday
Fifty Licks, the adorable Portland ice cream cart turned late-night Clinton Street scoop shop, will open its second brick-and-mortar location on East Burnside Street this Friday, owner Chad Draizin says.
The new shop will closely resemble the Southeast Clinton Street original, both in its retro-sleek decor and its menu, with Draizin's custardy ice cream, boozy cocktails and Cuban coffee affogato all making repeat appearances.
Turns out, Draizin has had his eye on this corner storefront across East Burnside Street from the Laurelhurst Theater for years, dating back to its earlier incarnation as thrift store Rad Summer. Last year, while driving past, he noticed the space was available. Within an hour, he had a lease in his hand.
For Draizin, the appeal is obvious.
"It seems like a sleeper location, but the foot traffic is astounding," Draizin says. "The movie theater is across the street and there are, I don't know, a dozen restaurants within two or three blocks."
Those restaurants include stalwarts onThe Oregonian's annual restaurant guide such as Langbaan, Navarre, Stammtisch, Ken's Artisan Pizza and Davenport, as well as new spots including Tusk, Guero and the under-new-ownership Tapalaya.
