Biography: One of rock's greatest studio musicians, Hopkins played piano and organ on hundreds of popular British and American artists records from the 1960s to the 1990s. Most notably, he was featured on songs bythe Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Who, the Beatles, theJeff Beck Group, and Jefferson Airplane. His resume also includesRod Stewart,George Harrison,John Lennon,Paul McCartney,Ringo Starr,Harry Nilsson, Peter Frampton,Jerry Garcia, Graham Parker, andDonovan, among others.
As a teenager, he joined the blues-rock group Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages, but complications of Crohn's disease, made him unable to maintain the lifestyle of a touring musician. He instead devoted himself to studio work in England, leaving an indelible impression. He moved to the San Francisco area in the late 60s for a few years, performed with Jefferson Airplane at Woodstock, and joined the band Quicksilver Messenger Service as a full member.
