Biography: Dustin Hoffman rose to prominence in the late 1960s and has since become one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, winning two Academy Awards for Best Actor.
Hoffman was born in 1937 in Los Angeles, California. He struggled as an actor in New York during the early 1960s, sharing an apartment with fellow aspiring actorsGene Hackman andRobert Duvall.
His breakthrough came with the lead role in "The Graduate" (1967), directed byMike Nichols. This was followed by another critically acclaimed performance in "Midnight Cowboy" (1969), for which Hoffman lived on the streets to prepare for his role as a homeless man.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Hoffman continued to deliver performances in films such as "All the President's Men" (1976) and "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979). He won his first Academy Award for Best Actor for "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979). His second Oscar came for his portrayal of an autistic savant in "Rain Man" (1988), directed byBarry Levinson.
Hoffman's career continued to flourish in the 1990s and 2000s with notable roles in "Tootsie" (1982) and "Wag the Dog" (1997). He expanded his repertoire by venturing into producing and made his directorial debut with "Quartet" (2012). Throughout his career, Hoffman has been nominated for seven Academy Awards.
