Following a similar route to the gray whale, the northern elephant seal travels an estimated 13,000 miles. But, unlike any other creature on planet earth, they migrate twice! This means each journey is approximately 6,500 miles long. Not only do they do this, but they are heavily pregnant throughout their journeys.
The underwatermigrations of marine creatures are not just epic adventures; they are vital components of the ocean’s delicate balance. As we marvel at the adaptability and grit of these creatures, let’s also recognize the importance of protecting their habitats and the oceans as a whole. By protecting these environments, we can ensure the continuation of these awe-inspiring migrations for future generations to appreciate!
