Sawi (سَوِى)

Sawi is a Dardic language spoken by about 5,000 people, mainly in the village of Sao on the Kunar River in Kunar province in the northeast of Afghanistan. There are also some speakers of Sawi in nearby parts of Pakistan, particularly in the Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkwa province.

Sawi is also known as Sau, Sauji or Savi. It is closely related to Palula, which is also spoken in the Kunar Valley to the north of Sao. It is rarely written, but can be written with a version of the Arabic alphabet.
