Mfumte is a member of Eastern Grassfields branch of the South Bantoid language family. It is spoken by about 24,000 people in the Northwest Region Cameroon, particularly in the north of the Nwa Subdivision of the Donga-Mantung Divison. There are also some speakers of Mfumte in the village of Inkiri in Taraba State in eastern Nigeria.
Mfumte is also known as Nfumte. Each of the villages where Mfumte is spoken has their own versions of the language. The Mfumte people also speak Ndaktup, Kwaja and Fum, which are either dialects of Mfumte, or closely-related languages.
