Biography

Giovanni Puggioni was a sprinter who ran the 4x100 relay for Italy at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He started as a boy with CUS Sassari, but later joined Fiamme Gialle, and specialized in the 100 metres.

The highlight of his career was winning a bronze medal in the 4x100 at the 1995 World Championships. Puggioni competed at two World Championships, the 1997 World Indoors, and at three Mediterranean Games, winning the 200 metres in 1997 at Bari with his personal best of 20.44, while adding another gold in the short relay. Puggioni won six Italian titles – 100 (1995-96), 200 (1990, 1997), and 60 indoor (1995-96). He later continued competing in masters’ athletics, recording 10.60 for 100 metres on 17 June 2006 at age 40 in Sassari.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.36 (1995).
