Biography

Randhir Singh was a five-time Olympian in sport shooting, always competing in trap shooting. He also competed at four Asian Games, winning three medals, one of each color. He was the son ofRaja Bhalindra Singh, who was a member of theInternational Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1947-92.

Randhir Singh studied at Yadvindra Public School, in Patiala, and graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with a degree in history. He became secretary-general of the Indian Olympic Association in 1987, holding that position until 2012. He also served as secretary-general of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) from 1991-2015, and in 2021 became acting President of the OCA, after sanctions againstSheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Sabah. Singh was a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency Foundation Board from 2003-05.

In 2001 Randhir Singh was co-opted as an IOC Member, serving on the committee until 2014, when he stepped down and was made an Honorary Member. During his time as an IOC Member he served on the following commissions: Olympic Games Study (2002-03), Sport for All (2004-13), Women and Sport (2006-13), Coordination for the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games Singapore 2010 (2008-11), and the International Olympic Truce Foundation (2007-14).

Randhir Singh was instrumental in bringing the 2010 Commonwealth Games to Delhi, India, and he was also vice-chair of the Organizing Committee. He has been a member of the Association of National Olympic Committees Executive Board since 2002.
