Yesterday we lost an amazing British musician that brought so many great songs and so many great British performances. I hope that by next week we see some of Chas N Dave's songs re-entering the charts, like Gertcha, Snooker Loopy, Rabbit, London Girls, The Sideboard Song, Ain't No Pleasing You, Margate, In Sickness and In Health, etc in honour of a Great British musician. Rest In Peace Chas.

Is there a reason why Killshot isn’t in the top 100 (unless I’ve missed it)?

It was only on youtube for most of the week and also due to chart rules Eminem is limited to 3 singles in the chart at a time

Ah right. I thought it was 3 singles off an album, not an artist.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

        - ‘Promises’ by Calvin Harris & Sam Smith is #1 on the singles chart for a third consecutive week! It was streamed 6.8 million times over the past seven days & it had a 6,000 combined sales lead over its closest competition.

        - ‘Promises’ is also #1 on the airplay chart for a fourth week in a row!

        - ‘I Love It’ by Kanye West & Lil Pump debuts at #1 on the YouTube chart with 4.56 million views around the country last week. It also broke the record for the biggest global first-week viewing figure by a hip-hop video (76 million). I’d expect ‘Killshot’ to be at the top when the chart refreshes tomorrow though.

        - JASON DERULO & DAVID GUETTA FT NICKY JAM & WILLIAM – GOODBYE (#33)
I had a good feeling going into this when I heard the song was inspired by ‘Time To Say Goodbye’ by Andrea Bocelli, which is an absolute classic! I’d say those positive expectations were only slightly met though. For a song about saying farewell to a lover, the sound seems unusually bright; set in a major key & very energetic! The song certainly succeeds blending reggaetón & urban-pop as shown by the beats & synths. Jason Derulo drops smooth yet solid vocals, even though he does get loose near the end & becomes more soulful, but then we get Nicki Minaj’s whose verse is way too heavy on effects & William sounds more interesting than in ‘Mi Gente’ at least, but still not memorable enough to win me over. Eh, this might grow on me, but as it is, light 6/10.

        - SIGALA, ELLA EYRE & MEGHAN TRAINOR FT FRENCH MONTANA – JUST GOT PAID (#37)
It’s kind of fitting that this climbs into the Top 40 as the end of the month approaches! Let’s get the only issue with the song out of the way first; the lyrics are about being irresponsible with their money. Going all out after payday is fine, but not to the point where you can’t afford your rent! Outside of that though, this is still a lot of fun; I like the big contrast between Ella Eyre’s deep soulful vocals and Meghan Trainor’s high-pitched voice, as well as Sigala’s usual keyboard beat in the pre-chorus & French Montana’s rap. I love the trumpet action in the hook which gives this a funky disco feel, but I don’t know, I feel like this is too obviously trying to chase hit status & all artists have performed better, but there’s nothing particularly wrong with the features here. So, that being said, I’m thinking a strong 6/10 here.

        - On the albums chart, ‘Kamikaze’ by Eminem is #1 for a third consecutive week, with around 29,000 combined sales over the past week (a 5,000 combined sales lead over its nearest competitor).

        - The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘True Meanings’ by Paul Weller (debuts at #2), ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack (2-3), ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ soundtrack (stationary at #4) & ‘Sweetener’ by Ariana Grande (stationary at #5).

        - Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Killshot’ by Eminem, ‘Swish’ by Tyga, ‘Head Above Water’ by Avril Lavigne, ‘Let You Love Me’ by Rita Ora, ‘Guiding Light’ by Mumford & Sons, ‘No Stylist’ by French Montana ft Drake, ‘Falling Down’ by Lil Peep & maybe even more.

        - Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Hey Piran! I love seeing 'Promises' at #1 for a 3rd week, and I really love the majority of the Top 10 this week. I'm still definitely not a fan of 'I Love It', but it was kind of hilarious hearing the clean version of the song on the chart show with how much it had to be changed. Seeing 'Happier' reach Top 5 and 'In My Mind' and 'Electricity' reach Top 10 is great! I'm not really a huge fan of either of the new entries this week, but I don't exactly hate them either.

'RAP DEVIL's climb is good to see, and I think that 'Killshot' will almost definitely chart next week. If it had been able to this week, it would've entered at #21 almost entirely on YouTube views. A Top 10 debut is definitely possible now that it's available on every platform, but I'm not entirely sure if it'll do it. It got off to a fantastic start on iTunes, soaring to #1, but it's now falling fast. It should have better longevity on streaming services, but given the type of track it is it probably won't have anywhere near as good longevity as something like 'Lucky You'. The fact that it's already been out for a week will definitely hurt it as well. It's currently #18 on Spotify and #12 on Apple Music for yesterday's charts, and I would expect it to climb on today's charts, but it'll probably fall quite fast throughout the week. YouTube could be its saving grace, but since it's already been on there for a week I don't know if it'll manage a 2nd week at #1.

The general consensus online seems to be that MGK made the catchier track, but Eminem made the far superior diss track, and I think I would agree with that. Just the title alone of 'Killshot' has incredible depth that I didn't really see in 'RAP DEVIL' - 'Killshot' is the name of a movie in which a highly experienced hitman targets someone called Carmen Colson, and with MGK's real name being Colson, the title is used as a metaphor for how Eminem, the experienced rapper, is going after someone out of their element (paraphrased from the Genius page for the track).

I really hope that 'Better' can enter the Top 40 next week as well. I'm loving a lot of Khalid's music at the moment, and 'Better' is no exception. It just missed out at #44 this week, but it does seem to be climbing in most places so hopefully it can keep that up for the rest of the week!

I love seeing 'Kamikaze' at #1 again, and it should get a 4th week at #1 next week. A few albums are now ahead of it on iTunes, and it definitely won't be #1 on physical sales, but I think that its massive streams should manage to keep it at #1. If anything will replace it, it'll probably be 'Visions of a Life' by Wolf Alice after they won the Mercury Prize. I do hope that 'Kamikaze' can keep the spot, though!

Hey Gameskiller! How are you this weekend? :)
Haha, yeah, what I didn't understand though is how they could make a clean version of 'I Love It', but not 'Rap Devil'? I agree with you on all of those other points regarding the Top 10 too!
I think YouTube is going to be 'Killshot's best chance, since the sales were too frontloaded. That makes me think that it'll be Top 10 in the chart update tomorrow, but not the overall one. The YouTube chart I check hasn't refreshed yet, so I don't know the UK viewing figures for 'Killshot' this week, but I do know that it passed 100 million views worldwide in just five days (audio), while it took two weeks for 'Rap Devil' to do the same (official video). MGK also admitted that he can't respond to 'Killshot', so it appears Eminem won the diss after all.
'Better' has the benefit of being a younger song too, so some songs above it are probably going ACR soon. 'Eastside' may very well be under threat of that rule now that it's charted for 10 weeks.
It appears that Christine & The Queens' new album is currently #1 on iTunes, but that won't yield enough streaming to be #1 probably. This is how I see the Top 5 shaping up to be on Friday:

        #1: Eminem - Kamikaze (=)
#2: 'The Greatest Showman' soundtrack (+1)
#3: Christine & The Queens - Chris (debut)
#4: 'Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again' soundtrack (=)
        #5: Wolf Alice - Visions Of A Life (re-entry)

It appears that both studio albums from Wolf Alice have stalled at #2, but what really surprised me is that they've had no appearances at all on the singles chart.
Also, my new Crown Note chart is up now if you want to check that out:

I'm good, thanks! I finished up all work I had to do yesterday, so I've had a pretty lazy Sunday! What about you?
I think they probably asked Kanye, Lil Pump and their labels for a clean version of 'I Love It' after it had such a massive debut last week, but didn't bother with 'RAP DEVIL' since it didn't have a huge debut and they didn't expect it to stick around for long. We may have a clean version by next week, though. I also expect that they won't be able to play 'Killshot' since they probably won't have a clean version, unless they've asked for one.
Yeah, I can't find weekly figures for 'Killshot' either, but I'd expect it to be around 5m-6m views, given its daily views. Was it not 100m worldwide in 8 days, though? It's currently at 104m and it's been out for just under 9 days. Either way, it's still extremely impressive and I'm pretty sure is a new record for an audio without accompanying video.
I think you're right about 'Killshot's placings. The most recent YouTube chart is for the 20th, and it's only just ahead of 'I Love It' in that one, so I think it'll be #2 there by now. It's #8 on iTunes and falling, #11 on Apple Music and actually climbing, and #21 on Spotify and falling, so overall it'll probably make a Top 20 debut, but not Top 10.
'Better' should enter next week. It climbed to a new peak of #40 on Spotify for yesterday's chart, and looks likely to keep climbing throughout the week, so a Top 40 entry is almost inevitable. I can honestly see it reaching Top 10 eventually as well - it's a really great track and Khalid has some really good popularity right now. It's also #13 and climbing on Spotify globally. 'Eastside' could go onto ACR as soon as next week if it falls, since it's been falling for the past 2 weeks.

        Hey Gameskiller! :)
I had a lazy Sunday too to be honest, but my lectures start again tomorrow, so I'm getting ready for those tomorrow at times. I also went to a few Fresher's parties this week (I'm actually a final year, but most people on my course were going, so I also did!).
Yeah, 'I Love It' is definitely the bigger hit of the two! I'm not sure, I saw lots of comments on YouTube saying it had reached the milestone in five days, but it was probably eight if it got to 104M in nine days.
I'd say 'Killshot' will be debuting in the chart next week, since it'll be above 'The Ringer', but I don't think it'll beat 'Lucky You' nor 'Fall'.
Yeah, if it's Top 40 on Spotify now, it should make the overall Top 40!
By the way, has Camila actually had a Top 40 debut with any songs other than 'She Loves Control' (#40) yet? All the ones I can think of have ended up climbing into the region after release. Interesting that her highest debuting song wasn't even an official single, haha!
If 'Eastside' does go ACR this coming week, it might drop out of the Top 10 entirely, given what happened to 'Shotgun' (which was also both consistent on both sales & streaming). We might not see another 10+ week #1 single for a few years at this rate, not even if it matches the commercial success of 'Shape Of You' & 'Despacito'.

'Killshot' may even be above 'Fall' next week as well, since the latter is now at #36 on Spotify, but it'll definitely be above 'The Ringer' (#34) but below 'Lucky You' (#13). 'The Ringer' is the only one of the 4 without a YouTube video, which will probably be what makes it the worst performing of them.
I don't think Camila's had another Top 40 debut, which is pretty insane since she's had 7 Top 40s in total. I'm really surprised that 'She Loves Control' hasn't been released as a single yet, though. I think it could definitely get her another Top 10 if it got more promotion, but we haven't actually had a proper single from 'Camila' since 'Never Be the Same' last December. We've had 'Sangria Wine' and 'Beautiful' but neither were actually from 'Camila'.
I think 10+ week #1s will be near impossible to get in the future thanks to ACR. 'God's Plan' would've managed 10 weeks, but even if we see singles as successful as 'Shape of You' and 'Despacito', having their streams halved will take their sales from the 80,000 - 100,000 range down to the 50,000 range, which is much easier for most really popular singles to overtake.

I think 'Despacito' was #1 for one week after it got hit by ACR (the week after 'Wild Thoughts' got to the top).
'She Loves Control' should be pushed as a single soon. I don't know if Camila is waiting until 'Beautiful' has run its course, but it's been ages since her last hit as a lead artist ('Never Be The Same') was big. She did drop a remix of 'Real Friends' with Swae Lee from Rae Sremmurd, but it doesn't appear to have taken off at all.

Yeah, 'Despacito' did manage 1 extra week after it was on ACR, but it needs an incredibly popular song with no real competition for a song to stay at #1 after ACR. Most #1 singles would just drop out of the Top 3 entirely, and even extremely popular songs would drop if they have some decent competition.
I hope 'She Loves Control' gets pushed soon, but I hope even more that we start to get some new songs from her before too long. I'd expect her next album to drop sometime next year (though I could be completely wrong), so I'd love if we got the first single from it near the end of this year or start of next year. I wasn't really a fan of the 'Real Friends' remix, though. I much prefer the original version.

Yeah, I mean look at what happened with 'God's Plan'; nine consecutive weeks at #1 from debut, then nearly dropped out of the Top 10 entirely. Had it not been for ACR, there's a chance that 'These Days' might not have got to the top at all (it's currently the second strongest song of 2018 so far).
I'd be surprised about that, considering it's only been eight months since her debut album came out. The original version of 'Real Friends' was definitely better, but the remix still wasn't bad.
Interestingly, Camila's highest charting song in my personal chart is probably her least successful in the UK as a single ('Hey Ma').

        avatar

        Foxes

        3
        Vote score

Jess Glynne wouldn't have had any #1s this year if not for ACR. 'God's Plan' would've gotten another week at #1, blocking 'These Days', while 'One Kiss' would've also gotten another week at #1, blocking 'I'll Be There'.
I don't think it's too crazy to think that she might release another album next year. If she releases it in the middle of the year it would've been a year and a half since her first album, and near the end of the year would make it nearly 2 years. And releasing the first single from an album 5-6 months before the album comes out is fairly common as well, so if the album does come out near the middle of the year, the first single could come out at the start of the year.
On a similar note, the only one of Camila's songs not to chart on my charts is the lowest performing of all of her songs to reach the Top 100 in the UK ('Sangria Wine').

Yeah, that's really interesting now that you mention it! I bet she's very happy that the rule exists then, haha.
It's just that she's only released two official singles from 'Camila' so far (not counting promotional ones) that it seems a bit early to move on while there are so many more potential hits from that album.
'Sangria Wine' really underperformed actually & I believe it crashed down my personal chart too!
