The low to the east of the South Island continues to weaken, while a second low passes near the Chatham Islands today, bringing a period or strong winds and rain. A weak front moves up the South Island and lower North Island on tomorrow. The front clears the country on Friday, with a showery southwest flow covering the country. A ridge of high pressure moves over the North Island on Saturday, while another front moves over the lower South Island. This front moves east of the country on Sunday and the ridge remains.

Thursday: Northerly 20 knots, rising to northwest 25 knots in the morning. Easing to northerly 10 knots in the evening. A few showers. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay: Nil significant. For Castlepoint: Easterly swell rising to 2 metres.
