Much of the work carried out by DTT is in support of the National Toxicology Program (NTP), an interagency partnership of the Food and Drug Administration, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and NIEHS.
Office of Program Operations

Matthew Stout, Ph.D., D.A.B.T, is a toxicologist in the Office of Program Operations in the Division of Translational Toxicology (DTT) at NIEHS. He serves as a Project Officer/Contract Officer's Representative in the administration and monitoring of DTT contracts involved in the conduct and reporting of scientific research. Stout also provides expertise in the acquisition and management of DTT contracts and interagency agreements, and in budget management.
Stout manages and participates in multidisciplinary teams of NIEHS/DTT scientists to develop research programs to address a broad array of toxicological study needs, with a primary focus on in vivo and in vitro inhalation exposure, dosimetry and toxicology studies. Selected projects include naturally occurring asbestos, α-pinene, multiwalled carbon nanotubes, trimethylsilyldiazomethane, p-chloro-α,α,α-trifluorotoluene, antimony trioxide, soluble and insoluble cobalt compounds, vanadium pentoxide, artificial butter flavorings. Stout contributes topeer-reviewed technical reports and manuscripts providing scientific data to regulatory agencies and the public.
Stout received a B.S. (summa cum laude) in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University in 2000 and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. He completed postdoctoral training in applied toxicology and carcinogenesis at NIEHS in 2009. Stout joined the Office of Program Operations and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (ABT) in 2009.
