About

FRANK BENTLEY WEEKS was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 20, 1854. In 1872 he graduated from the Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Later that same year he became an assistant to the superintendent of the Connecticut Hospital for the Insane, where he also served as a trustee for more than 30 years. Weeks served as director of the Middletown Mutual Assurance Company and the Middletown Savings Bank, and he established the Middletown Board of Trade. He entered public service in 1904 as a presidential elector. In November 1908 he was elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut. On April 21, 1909, Governor George Lilley died and Weeks, who was lieutenant governor at the time, assumed the duties of the governorship. During his tenure, Connecticut’s population grew rapidly with a heavy influx of immigrants and growth in urban areas. Weeks also regulated the budget and he followed Governor Lilley’s economic policies in an attempt to reduce taxes. He also resisted monopolies in support of industry regulations. After finishing Governor Lilley’s term, Weeks left office on January 4, 1911, and returned to his business interests. He later served as a delegate to the 1912 Republican National Convention, was trustee of Wesleyan University, and was a charter member of the Middletown Historical Society. At the age of 81, Governor Frank B. Weeks passed away on October 2, 1935. He is buried at the Indian Hill Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut.
