Manager Joe Desson Fresno Falcons Stage Long Drill For Oakland Game Fresno's Falcons worked overtime last night and had more of the same on the program today for their twin engagements with the Oakland Knaves tomorrow and Sunday nights. The Falcons will host Oakland in the Fresno Ice tomorrow night, facing 8:30 o'clock, and will go to Berkeley's said the Sunday game was scheduled only this week as a substitute for a December 28th date. Jeff Mottola, the Falcons' high scoring, fiery center, will see little, if any, action either night. He is skating but his ankle injury suffered two weeks ago will not permit him to turn quickly.
Nic Cinor, a casualty last week in Fresno's 4 to 2 loss to San Bernardino, has recovered sufficiently from his groin injury to play. Oakland, which will put a cou-. ple of newcomers on the ice against the Falcons, will tangle with San Bernardino tonight in the southern city. Gerlitz, a foot, inch defenseman, and Burnie Wyllie, a scrappy center, are the Knaves' new men. Fresno's workout last night was the first on home ice in nearly a month.
Operations Will Continue The purchase the Fresno vilion by The BEet radio station KMJ for its television studios is not expected to affect the Falcons' schedule, at least in the immediate future. The Pacific Coast Hockey League has a contract with the previous owner. Dr. R. W.

Hartnell The Junior Panthers from College of Salinas rejoiced today at their underdog role in their Little Rose encounter with the Bacone Indians tomorrow. What is more, the note Panthers announced they were impressed by the size of the Muskogee, Braves, whose defensive line averages 213 pounds- a sizable figure even for a major college. One reason for the confidence of the unbeaten Hartnell eleven is they can match the Inthe fact the believe players, dians' speed, even if they cannot compete for pure beef. Feature Track Stars The Hartnell backfield is laden with track stars and their light workouts here have demonstratalmost as well in hip boys can move paround they do in track shoes. Among the Hartnell backs noted for their fleet footedness are quarterback Marty Norman, who gets the starting call on offense, and halfbacks Clive Bullion, Harold Harriman, Randy Blair, Art Hernandez and Bob Scofield.
factors may help the Panthers, who have been installed as three point underdogs. The first is the game will be played under ideal conditionsat least, SO says the weatherman. The sky is expected to be clear and the air warm for the seventh annual jaycee classic. Hartnell is the first Northern California school ever chosen to represent the West in the Little Rose Bowl. All six Western entries in the past have been Southern California schools and five of them have emerged victorious, giving the Panthers something to shoot at.
Hartnell Coach Voris said his men are determined to uphold the record set by the Southern schools and he feels they are in razor sharp condition do it. "We were quite surprised to be invited and I hope we can express our pleasure with a victory," he said. Voris was pleased to learn Bacone's Indians 12 of them fullblooded Redskins were favored to bloody their scalping knives at the expense of his charges. But he hastened to point out Hartnell was unbeaten in 10 games during the regular season and pronounced the Panthers "one of the best junior college teams in Northern California history." "We don't fear their record or their size," he said. "We're unbeaten, too, and we've played teams this season and beaten them," he warned.
Voris planned to give his team only light drills here. Opinion Is Divided About Grid Substitution Rules By Hugh Fullerton, Jr. NEW -AP-When the National Football Rules Committee meets next month it should: Rule out the two platoon system. Allow unlimited substitution. Clarify the pass interference rule so as to, first, inflict fewer penalties on doubtful interfer.
ence and, second, protect the receiver from roughness because interference is not called. Eliminate Sucker Shift Do away with the socalled sucker shift. Eliminate the dangerous helmet block. Return the goal posts to the goal line. Permit running with recovered fumbles.
Do away with fumbles entirely. Require a fifth official to watch for downfield infractions. Eliminate a couple of the officials who keep getting in the or at least take their whistles away. It is all very simple. All the rulesmakers have to do is figure out the wording of new rules to bring about all these things and a few more.
Actually these 10 points take in the most frequent writers suggestions offered by sports and broadcasters replying to the Associated Press post season questionnaire. There were many ers and a solid bloc who voted "leave the rules alone." By far the greatest number of proposals concerned substitution and opinion almost was divided equally as to whether the rules should be tightened to end the platoon system or should provide for unlimited substitution as in pro football. Want Shifts Defined The publicity given this season to shifts which tend to draw the opposition offside and which, according to some coaches, are designed to do just that, brought a demand for a clearer definition of the illegal shift. And a good many experts agreed that pass interference is the hardest penalty to call and resulted in more rhubarbs. One school held the defenders are "clobbering" receivers and getting away it while, another insisted interferis called too often questionable circumstances.
