Oak, WSNS agree on subscription TV

Oak, WSNS agree on subscription TV Oak Communicatons Inc. and Video 44, owner of Chicago televisior WSNS, Channel 44, today announced they have reached agreement in principle proposed over-the-air subscription television service/STV) in Chicago. Under terms if the agreement Video 44 in its pending application to the Federal Communications Commission will designate Oak equipment and technology to provide the service. Oak Commuications Inc. is a subsidiary of Oak Industries Inc Video 44 is a joint venture of Harriscope of Chicago and corporations controlled by Alan Silvernan, Chicago theater owner and film producer. Subject to agreement on specific terms, if Video 44 receives the FCC grant it will use Oak addressable decoders similar to those used by National Subscription Television in Los Angeles. Video 44 also would utilize the engineering services, computer software and business orientation and training services provided by Oak Systems Inc., the unit which licenses Oak's STV technology. Oak would not have ownership participation in the Video 44 STV operation. Announcement of the agreement was made by John P. Gwin, president of Oak Communications, and Burt I. Harris, president of Harriscope.
