SL Sets First All-Star Tilt

SL Sets First All-Star Tilt first Southern League BIRMINGHAM (AP) All star is expected to draw some game 8,000 persons to Rickwood Field Monday night. On display will be the cream of talent in the eight-team league. The Birmingham Barons are the host team. They are in first place and won the right to field the classic. Starting pitchers will be Manley Johnston of Lynchburg for the All-Stars, and Ron Tompkins of the Barons. Johnston, a husky fireballer and a former Auburn University basketball and baseball standout, is the league's win-' ningest pitcher with a 11-6 rec-, ord. He also is the No. 1 Baron tamer, with a 3-0 record against the league leaders. Tompkins holds an 8-3 record. Neither pitcher is expected to work more than two innings. Baron Coach Haywood Sullivan and Star Mentor George Noga of Lynchburg, said SaturA day they plan to expose all their 20 players to the spectators.
