Schneider. tomorVrow 8 Neenah always maximum. a Opponents Princeton a Cambridge majority TAKE YOUR CHOICE. The Northwestern confesses to certain friendliness toward James H. Davidson, representative in congress from the Sixth district. Whenever he has been a candidate in the past sixteen years it has invariably, spoken a good word for him always given him a hearty support in the good work he has done. Now that he is a candidate for the eighth time the writer of this article expects to vote for him, as he always has, because he 1s a neighbor and a personal friend. The Northwestern's only criticism has been that Mr. Davidson has failed to•realize the great revolution that has taken place in political matters and has steadily identified himself with the Reactionary element in Washington, casting his fortunes with the Bourbon leaders in sullen opposition to every measure of reform. In the present campaign he has steadily refused to affiliate in any manner with the Progressives of either party and is now counted as a straightout Stand-pat or non-Progressive. He refused to sit on the stage with Theodore Roosevelt, at his great meeting in Oshkosh, but on the very next night he occupied a prominent place on the platform when John M. Harlan and J. Adam Bede made their rageous assault on the personal character of the ex- president, and he cheered loudly whenever a vicious or libelous statement was made against the great leader of the Progressives. The Northwestern would be faithless to its duty if it did not point out clearly the facts in relation to Mr. Davidson. Every voter is entitled to know the truth, and, knowing the truth, he can decide for himself how he should cast his ballot. There are many arguments in favor of Mr. Davidson, that he makes an efficient representative, that he is an Oshkosh man, that he is highly esteemed by his associates in Washington, that he has looked after the intereste of his constituents in the district and that he is a clean, honorable man in everyday life. But to those of our voters who are in earnest in carrying on the fight for Progressive principles the fact that Mr. Davidson is a Bourbon Reactionary will settle the matter. Many will vote against him because he has always failed to stand up for Progressive principles and they know that in the next congress, if he is elected, he will be found as usual working with the obstructionists. It must be remembered also that the next house of representatives will be Progressive. Whether Roosevelt or Wilson is elected, the house will be Progressive and Mr. Davidson would be in a helpless minority. His opponent is M. K. Reilly of Fond du Lac, a young Democratic lawver who is said to be a strong Progressive. So it is "up to' the voter to decide whether he wants a Bourbon Standpat Republican or Progressive Democrat as his representative in the next congress. It is a question that should be carefully considered but don't be fooled into believing that Mr. Davidson is any kind of a Progressive. Vote for the best man as you see it. " up on and in of the 8
